Kitchen

The kitchen is the most scrutinized room in any move-out inspection. Do not overlook hidden areas.

• Inside oven — remove racks, scrub all surfaces including bottom and walls
• Stovetop and burner grates — remove and soak if needed
• Range hood and filters
• Inside refrigerator and freezer — remove all shelves and drawers, wipe down walls
• Exterior of all appliances including handles and control panels
• Inside microwave — remove turntable and clean walls, ceiling, and floor
• Inside all kitchen cabinets and drawers — wipe shelves and remove liner if needed
• Exterior of all cabinet doors and hardware
• Countertops and backsplash
• Kitchen sink — scrub basin, faucet, handles, and drain
• Sweep and mop floors
• Wipe baseboards and window sill in kitchen

Bathrooms

Grout, behind the toilet, and soap scum are the most commonly flagged bathroom issues during inspections.

• Toilet — inside bowl, under rim, exterior bowl, tank, base, and behind base
• Shower — scrub tiles, grout, shower door or curtain rod, fixtures
• Bathtub — scrub inside, around faucet and drain, clean the exterior

Garage, Laundry, & Utility Areas

• Garage — sweep floor, wipe walls if marked, remove all items
• Laundry room — wipe washer and dryer exterior, clean lint trap, sweep floor
• Inside washer drum — run a cleaning cycle if possible
• Water heater and furnace areas — sweep and remove dust

Final Walkthrough Checklist

Before you hand over your keys, complete this final check:

• All items removed from every closet, cabinet, shelf, and drawer
• All personal property removed from the property entirely
• All lights working (replace any burned-out bulbs)
• All smoke detector batteries working
• No nails, screws, or damage to walls beyond normal wear
• Take photos of every room, every surface, every cleaned area
• Compare current condition to your original move-in inspection report
• Confirm all keys, fobs, remotes, and garage door openers are returned
